HAWMC Day 9

The post outline asked for tips I would give to caregivers (carers). I think that carers do a fantastic job and sometimes their job can be really hard.
There are really only a few tips that I would give to carers here they are:
-        Do not assume that the person you are caring for cannot do anything. If they want to try and do something- let the. Then if they are unable to do it, you can do it. It is often important to the person with the disability to try and do things. Sometimes we just want our independence. Even if it is only for the simplest things.
-        Sometimes the person may get upset with you because of frustration. Remember that it is not personal. It is normal for people to go through periods of frustration, anger, sadness and grief.
-        Try not to get frustrated at the person if they are doing something and it is taking longer than they would like. It is not their fault and although you can do it, it is probably important to the person to do it.
So these are my tips to caregivers!
